Meet the Interns: Mateo Alduk
When we advertised spots for our Intern Program, were surprised at the slew of top quality applications we received.
One such application was Mateo Alduk, and we're truly happy to have him join the Romero Athletics crew.
We caught up with Mateo to find out about his experience interning and what makes him tick.

I love my job so researching and learning more is always a good time for me. Travelling and hanging out (in the sun) with friends are pretty high up there too!
Why did you apply to intern at Romero Athletics?
With what I heard about Al, looking more in depth made me realize he is passionate about his work, has a lot of experience and knowledge, making it something I want to be a part of.
What do you hope to gain from your internship?
I’ve already picked up a lot of things, including improvements on not only my own movement but learning new exercises and methods and how I would implement a lot of them into my clients training as well as my own. I’m sure there is much more to come and am enjoying the experience and such broad knowledge.
What’s your history with sports and training?
Since high school I’ve always loved and played sport whenever and wherever I can. In college days, I started competing in Crossfit for a number of years, moving more along into the Olympic lifting side of things and now more into the gymnastics and power lifting side. I love changing it up and learning new things and new challenges.
What are your favourite exercises?
That is so tough! I really enjoyed the technical side of Olympic lifting, but now really have an appreciation for how much there is to powerlifting and how it is improving my efficiency. Gymnastics I’ve always enjoyed as we should be able to have great control in body awareness and strength. To pick some favorites would probably at the moment be Bulgarian split squats and muscle ups/rope climbs.
Dropping the hard questions! I think someone like Ronnie Teasdale is really cool, or Alec Smith. Both athletes do compete in Crossfit, but are not only amazing athletes in that sport but incorporate many other new exercises and skills into their training. They are always pushing themselves in new ways, keeping training fun and improving in strength/fitness/function in lots of different ways, but have made sure to master the basics in movement and body control first.
